Join us!

We are always looking for highly motivated postdocs and students interested in our research. MU offers competitive salaries and benefits. For more information, please visit the MU Postdoctoral Association and Grad School. Undergraduate students interested in doing research in our lab may apply through the BIPS and FRIPS programs.

For more information, please contact Jaime Barros with your CV and names of three references.

We look forward to your application!

Prospective postdocs

Postdoctoral researchers, or postdocs, are post-PhD researchers who lead research projects independently. Although we occasionally post internally-funded postdoc positions, we encourage all prospective postdocs to apply for independent funding. Here is a couple of links to some common fellowships (1, 2) and their deadlines.

Prospective postdocs are encouraged to contact Jaime in advance, even if there are no advertised positions. If you are interested in being hosted in our lab with a fellowship, please reach out to Jaime at least six months (ideally one year) before the fellowship deadline.

Prospective graduate students

Prospective graduate students can apply to Mizzou's Plant, Insect & Microbial Sciences PhD program (see https://gradschool.missouri.edu/degreecategory/plant-insect-microbial-sciences). Applications are typically open year-round (check specific semester deadlines here https://applygrad.missouri.edu/apply). For more information, visit Mizzou's Graduate School website.

PhD students interested in joining the lab are also encouraged to apply for external graduate research fellowship programs. You can find a list of fellowships here. Feel free to contact Jaime informally to discuss possibilities for rotations, joining the lab, or to seek advice!

Prospective undergraduates

Are you interested in exploring the biosynthesis of plant natural products and their roles in plant growth, development, or stress resistance? Or perhaps you are interested in developing bioenergy crops for the sustainable production of fuels, chemicals, and bioproducts? Write an email to Jaime (jaime.barros@missouri.edu) to discuss potential semester or summer research projects.

Undergraduate students interested in conducting research in our lab can apply through the Freshmen Research in Plants (FRIPS) and Bioinformatics in Plants (BIPS) programs. Additionally, MU offers a summer undergraduate research program each year (see: https://undergradresearch.missouri.edu/summer). Here is a list of additional summer research opportunities.
